Handle with Carrabelle

Posted on December 18, 2019December 18, 2019 by Analise Zocher

Hello! It’s Analise. We’re in Bradenton, Florida to spend Christmas with my mom. Last week was mellow but pretty — so many sunrise photos!

Land of the rising sun

First sunrise in Carrabelle, Florida

The sunrise was the first thing we were told to experience in Carrabelle, and that was how we started the first full day. There were even dolphins! Unbelievable. Our park was on the water, and we splurged for the waterfront site that faces the RVs out to the Gulf of Mexico.

Located on the Forgotten Coast, Carrabelle itself is a small fishing village where the people make their living on the water. There’s not much that’s tourist-y about it. The draw is the natural beauty, which is abundant. Our park, the Ho-Hum RV Park, is so named because it doesn’t have a pool, playground, or other non-necessity amenities. But why would you go in a pool when you could look at that view?

RV checkup

  • Boo: a couple rubber seals on the door window started peeling off during the drive. We’ve got them held in place with packing tape that doesn’t look tacky at all.
  • Yay: We replaced both jack springs on the rear passenger-side jack. Now both rear jacks retract without fuss. I was really proud of this repair so I included a few pics of the jig Mark and I put together to help us prep the springs for installation.
Parts to prep the springs for installation
The spring fits onto the backets. The nuts get screwed down the threaded bolt to push the backet out, stretching the spring.
When the spring is expanded, clothespin halves go into the open gaps. When the spring is taken off the jig, the wood keeps the spring expanded.
Mark installed the first pair of springs in New Orleans, so I got to install this pair in Carrabelle.

What’s next?

We’re in Bradenton through next week for Christmas. A month ago I was repairing the RV after damage from a freeze. Yesterday it was 80F with 95% humidity. My brain hasn’t caught up with this change.
